Slab Leak Causes Water Damage

SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado responded to a call from a homeowner in Carlsbad that suspected he had a slab leak.  

The homeowner was referred to us by his Farmers Insurance Agent.  The first step in the process is to provide a free inspection to see the extent of the water damage.  This home was a little different in that the flooring throughout the home was concrete.

Luckily we have a Tramex CME 4 moisture meter, that is a handheld electronic moisture meter used for testing moisture conditions in concrete and other floor slabs and screeds.  A low frequency electronic signal is transmitted into the material under test via the electrodes in the base of the instrument.  

Once the insurance claim was filed and approved with Farmers, SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado was able to dry out the home within 72 hours.

SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado received a call over the weekend from a local T-Mobile business owner.  

Unfortunately his restroom experienced water damage over night when the toilet tank malfunctioned and ran for a couple of hours.  

Being a small business owner, his major concern was having to shut down his business for an extended period of time.  He has two employees that work for him and he was concerned about them missing pay. 

Luckily SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado was able to extract the water within an hour of receiving the phone call.  We had a team of technicians work around the hours of the business, so that the business owner did not have to shut down.

Drywall cuts in living room 24/7 Emergency Service (619) 435-0365

SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado responded to this call on a Sunday Evening.  The water heater in the garage malfunctioned which caused damage in the garage and went through the wall into the living room.  

We arrived within an hour of the call and came up with a game plan with the homeowner.  The homeowner filed a claim with Triple A insurance and because we are a preferred vendor the process was seamless. 


The homeowner was pleased that we only had to make cuts on one side of the wall, which minimized the amount of drywall that had to be replaced.  The flooring in the living room was also affected, so we removed part of the floor and dried the subfloor.  The homeowner was pleased to have his home dried out in just three days, so now the repairs can begin.

SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado responded to a water heater leak in La Mesa, Ca.  We were able to respond to the call within an hour, helping minimize the damage.  


We ended up making minimal cuts on the garage side, which allowed us to dry everything without having to disrupt the clients office.  During the claim process SERVPRO of San Diego Bay SW/Coronado communicated with the insurance company which the client appreciated.  Below is the 5 Star Google Review that the client was nice enough to leave.

Marc Leishman was crowned the 2020 Farmers Insurance open with a 7-under 65 on Sunday and a one-shot victory over John Rahm.

Moisture and The Impact of Mold Growth

Exposure to damp and moldy environments may cause a variety of health effects.  Listed below are some pointers on minimizing mold growth in your home or business

  • When water leaks or spills occur indoors - ACT QUICKLY.
    If wet or damp materials or areas are dried 24-48 hours after a leak or spill happens, in most cases mold will not grow.
  • Clean and repair roof gutters regularly.
  • Make sure the ground slopes away from the building foundation, so that water does not enter or collect around the foundation.
  • Keep air conditioning drip pans clean and the drain lines unobstructed and flowing properly. Moisture and Mold
    PREVENTION and control tips
  • Keep indoor humidity low. If possible, keep indoor humidity below 60 percent (ideally between 30 and 50 percent) relative humidity. Relative humidity can be measured with a moisture or humidity meter, a small, inexpensive ($10-$50)
    instrument available at many hardware stores.
  • If you see condensation or moisture collecting on windows, walls or pipes - ACT QUICKLY to dry the wet surface and reduce the moisture/water source. Condensation can be a sign of high humidity.

Actions that will help to reduce humidity:

  • Vent appliances that produce moisture, such as clothes dryers, stoves, and kerosene heaters to the outside where possible. (Combustion appliances such as stoves and kerosene heaters produce water vapor and will increase the humidity unless vented to the outside.)
  • Use air conditioners and/or de-humidifiers when needed.
  • Run the bathroom fan or open the window when showering. Use exhaust fans or open windows whenever cooking, running the dishwasher or dishwashing, etc.

Actions that will help prevent condensation:

  • Reduce the humidity (see preceding page).
  • Increase ventilation or air movement by opening doors and/or windows, when practical.
  • Use fans as needed.
  • Cover cold surfaces, such as cold water pipes, with insulation.
    Increase air temperature
